Happily Ever Endings... Eve by Anna Carey

Happily Ever Endings... was born out of sheer frustration. You know how when you read a series and you love it but the last book takes a little while to come out and then you sort of forget parts of the novel? That's what these posts are going to serve to remedy. Happily Ever Ending... is a short post about what happened at the ending of each book that is going to be in a series for people who need a quick reminder of what happened in the previous installment. I hope this saves someone else the frustration that I went through!

Eve by Anna Carey
The year is 2032, sixteen years after a deadly virus—and the vaccine intended to protect against it—wiped out most of the earth’s population. The night before eighteen-year-old Eve’s graduation from her all-girls school she discovers what really happens to new graduates, and the horrifying fate that awaits her.

Fleeing the only home she’s ever known, Eve sets off on a long, treacherous journey, searching for a place she can survive. Along the way she encounters Caleb, a rough, rebellious boy living in the wild. Separated from men her whole life, Eve has been taught to fear them, but Caleb slowly wins her trust...and her heart. He promises to protect her, but when soldiers begin hunting them, Eve must choose between true love and her life.

Eve and Caleb get into a fight and Eve waits for him to come back even though Arden suggests they leave. There is a rumbling in the caves and all the boys run out. It's a car above them and Leif hands over Eve andArden in exchange for medicine and food which the man does not give Leif. The little boys run after Eve but can't catch up. In the cage in the car is another girl freshly escaped from school and the guy who captured them assures them they aren't going back to School but somewhere worse. Eve makes a plan to escape. When the guy stops for the evening, they ask to go to the bathroom and make a break for it.

The guy follows Eve as she runs for a light. The guy tries to shoot her but is shot instead by an older woman who takes all three girls in. They learn of the underground road that leads to Califia. They stay with the old couple who treats them nicely. At night, Eve sends a code to Caleb, revealing where she is in the code Caleb taught her. The next day, everything is fine until the woman notices the radio has been moved and asks about it. Eve tells her about the message and they barely have time to hide before the King's men are there. When they find the girls, they shoot the old couple. Arden and Eve are able to escape but the other girl gets shot.

Arden and Eve run to a house but get trapped. Arden runs out and distracts the guards so Eve can get away. Depressed, Eve stays in a bathtub but finally decides she can't give up her shot at freedom. She begins to head towards the lake Caleb is at but encounters a car on the rod. She tries to escape it but it turns out to be Caleb who has come to find her. They kiss and start back towards home in a car Caleb found. They get through most of the mountains but the car dies so they have to camp out in the snow. Eve begins to realize what life with Caleb could be like.

They go to a town and the King's men find them. Caleb gets shot but Eve shoots all te guys accept a younger guy who she makes drive them. Caleb is losing too much blood so the guy offers to patch Caleb up in return for his freedom. Good to his word, the kid helps Caleb and Eve lets him go. Eve drive the rest of the way to the edges of Califia. They have to walk down the bridge and then Caleb can get help. Struggling to walk, Caleb leans on her most of the way. At Califia the woman looks them over and offers Eve refuge but says Caleb can't come in. Eve realizes too late that Califia is an all woman refuge. Caleb kisses her goodbye and promises to try and come back for her. Then he starts back down the bridge wounded, leaving Eve alone.

  2. Oh my goodness, this will be so helpful. This was one of the books specifically that I could not remember the end of at all. I'm not reading Once yet, but when I do I will be back!

Thinking of writing something below? Well, that's why you are awesome! I always love feedback!

This blog is an award free zone. With the demand of a full time job, blogging time is becoming much more precious and I just don't have the time to meet the demands of awards. Thanks so much for thinking of me anyway!
