Book Tunes (2)

When I was doing my Sequels month I always posted a playlist about the book I was reading and really liked doing it. I enjoy associating music to novels because I truly feel like every art inspires the other.

Book Tunes is a new meme that will be held on Fridays and the point is to share the book your reading and a song you think represents it. Be sure to include the novel you are reading, the summary, the song you think fits it and an explanation of why you chose that particular song. So snag yourself a button, write a post and link up at the bottom of the page!

Summary from Goodreads:

Nina Oberon's life is pretty normal: she hangs out with her best friend, Sandy, and their crew, goes to school, plays with her little sister, Dee. But Nina is 15. And like all girls she'll receive a Governing Council-ordered tattoo on her 16th birthday. XVI. Those three letters will be branded on her wrist, announcing to all the world—even the most predatory of men—that she is ready for sex. Considered easy prey by some, portrayed by the Media as sluts who ask for attacks, becoming a "sex-teen" is Nina's worst fear. That is, until right before her birthday, when Nina's mom is brutally attacked. With her dying breaths, she reveals to Nina a shocking truth about her past—one that destroys everything Nina thought she knew. Now, alone but for her sister, Nina must try to discover who she really is, all the while staying one step ahead of her mother's killer.

The Tune: Numbers by Great Northern

The Lyrics:
Beware of strength in numbers
They play better than one
A group of those who follow
Can never reach the sun

Be careful who you're thinking will save you in the end
Maybe we're all just waiting for one beautiful friend

The rising of all of this
Will not become the fall
A group of those who follow

Will never learn to walk

We see what we want to see
Maybe breathe lighter now
The group of those who follow
You'll never see us now

Save us

Why this tune?:

I opened up my itunes list and this song is at the very top right now. I've been listening to it nonstop because it's inspired a new novel idea for me and then I realized that it worked really well for this novel too.

Nina is being told what to do by everyone. The government and media is telling her how she should dress, how should should feel and how she should see the world. And most of the people follow like sheep. The "numbers" are dangerous. They never grow into themselves and thus never learn to "walk". Everything about XVI is about numbers-- the tier system, the tattoo on the birthday--and ultimately numbers equal bad things.

So what's a good tune for your latest read?

Thinking of writing something below? Well, that's why you are awesome! I always love feedback!

This blog is an award free zone. With the demand of a full time job, blogging time is becoming much more precious and I just don't have the time to meet the demands of awards. Thanks so much for thinking of me anyway!
